Grow Your Own Bouquet Garden
A two-hour workshop on growing your own cut flower garden for bouquets
Sunday, April 13th 11:30-1:30
Aubergine Community Space
1226 Williamson St, Madison, WI 53703
About The Class:
Do you love fresh flowers and have 30 square feet (slightly smaller than a queen-sized mattress) of full sun or part sun garden space? Learn how to grow your own bouquets all summer long with Aaron Suiter of the Plant Propagation Project and Hayley Huston of The Nine Winds. We’ve trialed hundreds of varieties of flowers to find the beginner-friendly cultivars that thrive in Wisconsin, are easy to grow without pesticides, and require relatively little maintenance.
Workshop participants will leave with approximately 30 seedlings to plant into their garden, along with handouts detailing how to care for and harvest their flowers. This two-hour class will cover the fundamentals of growing a cut flower garden from seed, including planning, propagation, maintenance, and harvest. Students will gain hands-on experience with sowing and potting-up flower seedlings, and will learn the basics of watering, fertilizing, and hardening off their seedlings.

Exact flower species are subject to change, but we expect to provide:
Cosmos ◆ China Aster ◆ Dahlia ◆ Foxglove ◆ Larkspur ◆ Lavender ◆ Nicotiana ◆ Ornamental Carrot ◆ Snapdragon ◆ Sweet Pea ◆ Viola ◆ Yarrow ◆ Zinnia

After the class, participants will need to care for their seedlings – indoors – until approximately May 18. If you have a grow light setup, great! If not, you can purchase lights from us for an additional fee. If you would rather not care for your seedlings yourself, we are also offering the option to board the plants for you until planting time.
Participants should have 30 square feet of full sun or part sun garden space to devote to their cut flower garden. If you need help creating new flower beds, we’re happy to provide insights on how to do that.
The Course Contains:
A two-hour hands-on class that teaches how to grow a beginner friendly cutting garden. We will provide handouts with additional information about growing flowers, what seeds to buy, when to plant different varieties, when different flowers bloom, and more!

Each participant will leave with about 30 seedlings.
